Artist Statement
“ Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time. ” — Thomas Merton
Art and creativity have always been inherent parts of who I am. Since I was a small child, I have loved to draw, paint and create. This love has endured into adulthood as my passion for visual arts blossomed during high school where I completed several Visual Arts subjects for my HSC. I left school and began a Bachelor of Arts at University, majoring in Visual Art and Art History, with the aim to become a high school art teacher. I then moved to change my degree over to primary school teaching, where I have been educating now for almost 17 years. My passion for visual arts is pursued in my career, working with my students and creating school mural projects.
Painting is something that I have always done for myself, and I have created many pieces for my own home. My biggest supporter and encourager has always been my Mum, who was one of the most creatively inspiring people I knew. Mum was extremely talented and had the ability to work with ease to pick up any artistic style and medium, she was amazing! Last year, I lost my beautiful Mum suddenly to mental health. As you can imagine, this had a profound effect on me and my life and rocked my world. It was this life changing event that prompted me to pick up the paintbrush again and lose myself in painting.
Mum was, and remains still, my biggest inspiration. Painting and creating has been immensely therapeutic for me. It has helped me to both find and lose myself at the same time. It has been the most wonderful thing, as it has helped me heal, look after and nurture my own mental health and wellbeing.
After constant encouragement from friends and family, I have recently taken the brave step (and believe me, this was a HUGE step for me!) to share my artistic creations with the wider world. I am so grateful for those who have found a place in their hearts to appreciate and love my creations as much as me.
I thank you all for supporting my endeavours, my heart is truly full!
